Reception
Our Reception class is a nurturing and inspiring environment where young children begin their exciting learning journey. Through play, exploration, and carefully planned activities, we support each child to grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity.
We focus on building strong foundations in communication, early literacy and numeracy, as well as social and emotional development - we want all children to be happy and have a positive start to their school life.
Getting Reception Ready!
Your childs first year at 'Big School' is an exciting time! We've put together a list of 5 top tips so that your child is ready for when they come into our Reception class from either home or Pre-School.
Talk! Making time for back and forth conversations is one of the most beneficial things you can do to prepare your child for Recption. Helping them be more confident in expressing themselves and sharing their thoughts and opinions as well as listening to those of others prepares them for their time in Reception.
Get Physical! As well as all the incredible mental health and wellbeing benefits of outside play provides; crawling, climbing, swinging and jumping help build the muscles your child needs to be a strong and confident writer. If you fancy an adventure there are many fantastic woodlands, playgrounds, beaches and parks in our local area to explore.
Read! Sharing stories helps develop a child's curiosity for understanding the world around them.It builds their imagination, vocabulary, listening skills and knowledge of stories. Reading with your child every day helps them see the world from different points of view and access the learning across the curriculum. It is essential!
Self Care! Does your child know how to go to the toilet on their own? Are they confident in how to wash their hands after? Can they take their jumper off on their own or put their coat on? These little steps of independence will help your child grow in confidence and see themselves as school ready.
Sing! A good range of songs and rhymes not only sets the foundations for learning music, it also helps children to be better at reading and writing.
