Physical Education

At Sinnington Community Primary School, we value Physical Education. We are Sports People! A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for children to become physically confident in a way which supports their health, fitness and wellbeing. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Intent:

Our aim is to deliver outstanding PE that encourages all children to enjoy, succeed, and excel in sport and physical activity.

We want children to:

  • Be physically confident and lead healthy, active lives

  • Develop key skills across a wide range of sports and activities

  • Show creativity, control and tactical awareness

  • Improve their own and others' performance

  • Demonstrate core values like fairness, resilience, and collaboration

  • Enjoy extra-curricular sport and leadership opportunities

  • Swim at least 25 metres and understand water safety

Implementation:

  • EYFS: Daily active sessions develop physical and social skills; Reception has additional PE sessions focusing on balance, control and movement.
  • KS1: Twice-weekly lessons build fundamental skills in games, dance and gymnastics through competitive and co-operative activities.
  • KS2: Skills are applied in more complex ways through a broad curriculum including swimming. Children learn to collaborate, compete, and improve.

  • Specialist teachers and coaches support delivery throughout the year.

  • Regular in-school and inter-school competitions foster a love of sport.

  • Sports Leaders promote active play and positive sporting behaviour.
