Music

Intent

At Sinnington Primary School we want children to participate in a variety of musical experiences and appreciate different forms of music.

Our aims include:

  • To build up the confidence of all children through the progression of study.
  • For children to leave Year 6 with a solid understanding of the music curriculum.
  • For all children to have a broad understanding of music around the world and how this is embedded in different cultures.

Implementation:

Through a broad and progressive curriculum, children will:

  • Learn that music is a universal language and a powerful form of expression

  • Develop key skills in rhythm, beat, and pitch through singing and playing instruments

  • Explore music across cultures, time periods, and genres

  • Use and understand musical vocabulary with increasing confidence

  • Compose, perform, and evaluate music critically and creatively

Music is taught by a specialist teacher and class teachers using the Sing Up curriculum, which ensures clear progression and builds on prior learning. Children have regular opportunities to perform and to connect music with other subjects such as dance and drama.
